Emory Members Will be Serving the Local Community!
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Emory will be participating in Serve Fest, a local day of service coordinated by Mountain Christian Church on Saturday, April 28. Our project will be to spruce up the gardens at SARC, the Spousal Abuse Resource Center in Bel Air. In addition, we will also be collecting donations that will create a comfortable atmosphere in the safehouse for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
How Can You Get Involved? Here are two options . . .
# 1: Donate Items for the Safehouse
Need a reason to do some spring cleaning? We are collecting items that will give the safehouse a more “homey” feel. Collect as many of these gently used items and bring them with you to church on Sunday, April 22. If you aren’t able to bring them to church, email missions@emorychurch.org and we will make a plan to pick up the items from you.
We are looking for . . .
- Curtains (simple rods and valances of varying sizes)
- Floor and/or table lamps
- Twin-sized sheet sets and bedspreads
- Throw pillows
- Wreaths, wall hangings, or framed art of all types
- Welcome signs or other attractive entrance pieces
- Artificial house plants
- · Small furniture (chairs, end tables, accent pieces, etc.)
- · Benches, shelves or hooks for a mudroom area
#2: Volunteer on Saturday, April 28
Sign up to help us spruce up SARC’s gardens. We will be spreading mulch, weeding existing shrubbery, and planting. A local girl scout troop will join us to plant a garden in the front of the building! Those interested in spending the morning working at SARC are asked to sign up in the narthex on the sign-up sheet. Please list your name, address, and phone number. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. but will confirm the start time and location with you once our number of volunteers has been determined. If you aren’t able to sign up at church but are interested in attending, email missions@emorychurch.org.
